Big things have small beginnings, but $300 million is still a lot of money.
Hollywood Reporter confirmed today (read that story here) that Fox is moving forward on a sequel to Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel “Prometheus.” The movie that was budgeted at around 130 million made over $300 million at the box office, which is more than enough to warrant a return. It was also reported that stars Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace have signed on for the sequel, but writer Damon Lindelof may or may not be available. The sequel is expected to hit theaters around 2015.
 My Take
I really liked Prometheus, I thought the setting was awesome, I though the story was interesting, I thought it was a solid Ridley Scott sci-fi. I mean I do think that a lot of the characters needed work, Fasbender’s David aside becasue he was awesome, but on the whole it was really captivating. That said I am all for another one! They didn’t quite leave us hanging at the end, but they definitly left room for more story, whole other worlds that could be explored, and a bid slimy alien is lurking around now as well. My main concern comes only from the production side. Lindelof is an amazing writer, and the potential loss of his input is devastating, I only hope they find an equally talented writer out there to script this new installment. All that said, so long as Ridley is game to wander back out into the vast unknowns of outer space, I’ll be along for the ride.
Until next time
