The Facts

Earlier this morning Entertainment Weekly (that story here) released the first official photogrpah of Daniel Day Lewis as 16th President Abraham Lincoln. This movie has  been gestating for quite some time, even as far back as 2009, when Liam Neeson was attached to play the willowy Civil War leader. But finally, we know that this project will be completed, and will hit theaters this fall. The film chronicles the last few months of Lincolns life, leading up to his assassination at  Ford’s Theatre. “Lincoln had a very, very complicated – and at the same time, extremely clear — inner life,” Speilberg told Entertainment Weekly. “He thought things out. He talked things out. He argued both sides of every issue. And he was very careful in making any decision. As a matter of fact, his opponents and his enemies criticized him often for being impossibly slow to a decision.” Director Steven Speilberg has kept a pretty tight lid on this films production, but that doesnt mean some industrious fans werent able to sneak a few snap shots of the leading man out and about!

My Take

Its pretty apparent now, to any reasonable movie fan, that Daniel Day Lewis is one of the greatest actor of out generation. He has received countless awards for his riveting portrayals of heroes and villains, and complex men in general. So His turn as Lincoln I’m sure, will be nothing short of riveting. Long famous for his deep, method approach to acting, you can tell from both the official shot, and the candid, that Daniel Day Lewis isnt there, Lincoln is there. Its actually quite startling how closely he resembles the man, young children are going to grow up thinking Daniel Day Lewis is on the penny, or won the Civil War! All in all though i think its a great picture and am looking forward to more, as well as the late fall release of Lincoln.

until next time
